Alexander Novoselov's Victor is in the lead of the 2017 Melges 20 European Championship

Melges 20 European Championship started in Sibenik (Croatia) with one race, which was won be Alexander Novoselov's Victor!

It was a tough day for everyone: shifting winds, in the beginning, the start was postponed, the fleet was nervous. Which doesn't come as a surprise, the title of the European Champion is at steak!

Igor Rytov's Russian Bogatyrs took over the lead from the start, but very quickly Alexander Novoselov's Victor caught up with them. Alexander Novoselov's Victor (Stefano Cherin, tactician) demonstrated that he knew how to race in the light air conditions best. From mid-race onward, Novoselov made not one mistake, not one faulted move, ultimately overtaking the lead at the gate then holding off Rytov for the win. Rytov made it a fight to the finish against Orel Kalomeni on Arcora from Monaco (Sebastian Col, tactician). Kalomeni edged it out to take second place, Rytov came third.

Alexander Ezhkov's Pirogovo and Stig/Openjobmetis of Alessandro Rombell i are completing the top five leading positions.

Mag Tiny of Krzysztof Krempec and Evinrude of Marco Giannini were the unfortunate recipients of black flag penalties.

Among Corinthian teams, Wilma Homann 's Fantastichina is in the lead. Right behind her is 2017 Zadar Corinthian Champion Marina Kaverzina aboard Marussia.

Results of the first race are available here.

The races will continue on July 13th and 13.00 (GMT+2).
