The last regattas of the Melges 20 winter season, the Montemaggio Cup, started in Monaco this Friday, March 3rd.
Despite extremely shifty winds and complicated weather conditions, three energetic races were held. Star Telekom of Waldemar Salata won the first race, Alexander Ezhkov’s PIRogovo won the second race, and Maolca of Manfredi Vianini Tolomei won the third.
The leader of this Winter Series is Alexander Ezhkov’s team, and they proved their status by leading in the overall rankings, after the first day of the Act 5. PIRogovo won’t let anyone snatch their initiative!
The closest ones to the leader are Rocknrolla of Dmitry Samokhin (7th and two 2nd places) and Marussia of Marina Kaverzina (2nd, 5th, and 4th places).
Alexander Novoselov’s Victor is not in their usual position of this season - 8th place. Once they finished fourth, but also had two finished in the rearguard of the fleet, and we can see the result. However, as we previously mentioned, almost nothing is threatening Alexander Novoselov’s second place in the overall rankings.
What about the bronze contenders of the season? Valenti Zavadnikov’s Synergy is doing better than anyone else, they are placed 6th after the first day. Alexander Mikhaylik’s Alex Team is placed 9th, Vadim Yakhinson’s Leviathan – 10th.
The weather forecast for the weekend is promising, complicated wind (but it will be windy!), therefore two battle days are ahead of the Melges 20 fleet. And who knows, maybe on the very last regatta of the season it will be possible to hold 9 planned races?
