Toulon is the penultimate Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series event, and it's still anyone's game.
There are only 10 points separating the top three teams and all bets will be off during official racing September 10-11.
Four practice races were were held today for the six America’s Cup teams, battling it out in the penultimate round of the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series. Today they took every second they could have on the water and prepared for the point scoring races on Saturday and Sunday.
Conditions are forecast to be on the lighter side through the weekend – challenging for the sailors and tacticians alike. The light conditions could play into the hands of the home team, Groupama Team France, who have posted their strongest results in non-foiling conditions.
“Our strong point is light airs,” Cammas said. “We’ve had good results in those conditions. Our progression curve is going up, but we need to be more consistent. Throughout the events, we’ve had ups and downs. I hope Toulon will be one of the ups!
We’ve worked a lot for this. Anyhow, we’re especially motivated to do well. We’re dead set on giving a good image of what we’re made of here, to show these boats and this racing to our public. Our goal is to create a team with a true French spirit for the next 10 years.”
In the mean time Oracle Team USA revealed that they too have achieved the "holy grail" of sailing maneuvers, the foiling tack. This comes just on the heels of SoftBank Team Japan's announcement that they were the first team to master the foiling tack. Since arriving in Toulon the skippers have reiterated that the foiling tack is the way forward, and key to winning the America's Cup. Which team will be next?
