No wind for the first day of the Melges 20 Russian Open

Teams were all dressed up and unable to race on opening day at the 2017 Russian Open, hosted by Fraglia Della Vela Riva due to lack of breeze.

Initial forecasts predicted light air, and north Lake Garda’s lazy conditions concurred as teams waited patiently all day for pressure. In the end, the dreaded call was made AP flag over Alpha - game over for the day.

Despite the lack of breeze today, Pietro Loro Piana helmsman aboard Gone Squatchin remains excited about the competition yet to come. "We started sailing the boat back at the Primo Cup. We really liked the boat, so we got a new one and have been making progress throughout the season. We need to find some wind, and hope to do so tomorrow on Lake Garda."

"I don’t know of any other boat where you have this much fun downwind. It’s great fun. It's such a fun boat," continued Piana. "The fleet is quite competitive. The key for me is to have fun and, I sail with my friends. I encourage everyone to sail this boat as soon as you can!"
