Sailor of the Year, the national Russian award, was held in Moscow last weekend. This award is quite unique, since it unites both members of Russian Sailing Federation (RSF) and those who are only planning to become one.
This year shows us how much Russian sailors improved their results, how high those results are in general. There were more than a 1000 guests on the ceremony, such as: World Sailing president Kim Andersen, leaders of the Russian Sailing Federation, sailing classes presidents, representatives of regional federations (members of RSF), friends of the Yacht Russia magazine, partners of the award itself and other important figures and businessmen.
Sailor of the Year 2016 is Anatoly Loginov, who won the European Championship 2016 in Dragon class in St. Petersburg with his crew.
Female Sailor of the Year 2016 is Stefania Elfytina, a 19 year old athlete. She started this year with the ISAF Youth World Championship victory, then she won the European Championship 2016, was placed 5th on the World Championship, won Bronze in the RS: X Sailing Race in Rio. She was the first Russian sailor who won the Olympic bronze medal in sailing.
The Team of the Year is the Russian sailing Olympic team 2016: this team is one of the best examples of unity, endurance, understanding and support in tough conditions. The result of hard work this team has done it the perfomance of the team in Rio and such a long-awaited medal.
